Fulfilling the Military Student Success Center’s (MSSC) mission depends on our ability to provide military veteran students a smooth transition to college life. Some of our top goals are to ease the transition to campus life, increase student retention, and enhance achievement of educational and career goals. For this reason, in Spring 2014 we decided to launch the MSSC Military Mentor Program.
This mentoring program offers veterans who are UTEP staff, faculty, and student’s (beyond freshman year) and who have real-world and college life experience to help develop, guide and mentor UTEP student veterans.
Mentors participating in this program have opportunity to help to shape the lives and careers of tomorrow’s teachers, business leaders, engineers, and more. Mentees assimilate more easily into traditional college life and experience a sense of community and belonging by being associated with an outstanding peer group.
